Microsoft Word is a word processor.
Though not the technical writer’s most favourite program, it is possible however to use it for documentation purposes. In that case, it is strongly advised to use templates to structure your documents.
It is perfectly possible to write DITA in Microsoft Word. However, as Word will not guide you in any way, you need a very good knowledge of the DITA rules if you want to use them.
